About Bristlecone Pine: The Bristlecone Pine has the unique reputation of being the "oldest known living thing" as documented by the National Geographic (March 1958) and other sources. The oldest known living tree is located in the Inyo National Forest in California.

More than a century ago, a forest fire burned many acres of Bristlecone high in the San Juan Mountains in Southern Colorado. Many of these trees, though burned, have continued to stand throughout the decades since. Countless storms have weathered the blackened face of each log to a beautiful silvery-gray patina.

This patina, along with burn marks still showing on protected areas, has given this precious wood a unique look that only nature can give. Notice the fine grain and tight knots that characterize "old-growth" wood. Much of this burned bristlecone has been harvested as firewood. Soon, it will be gone.
